Dear Pastor Dean,
My cousin, Sarah McMullen, asked me to write you about how much I have enjoyed COVER TO COVER.
Through reading this time, I have truly learned to love the Word! I have read the Bible through, taught all ages of Sunday School and many Bible studies and each has brought me a deeper understanding of and love for the Lord, but this time has brought the most joy and encouragement. perhaps this is some of the wisdom that comes with age.
The first time I read the Bible through, my husband was in seminary and each morning at the breakfast table, I would announce some noteworthy jewel from my readings. This time I am sharing my special jewels with ladies in an art class. Jewels like Jer. 5:22, Jer. 10:5, and II Kings 13:20-21.
Perhaps the recent events in my life have made this journey through the Word special. In the past 2 1/2 years, we have moved to start a new pastorate, I relinquished my inheritance at a greatly reduced price to my sister who cannot understand how I could let go of family land and now hardly speaks to me. Within one year of being here, my husband had a heart attack and had to have a double stint put in his heart. Due to complications, he died and was shocked back to life. Less than a year later the church asked him to resign. (They could give no reason) My cousin Becca and her children were killed by a drunk driver. When we moved here, we started building a house which still is not complete. (We are on the pay as you build plan and living in the basement as we finish the house.) My daughter got married in May of this year and I am looking forward to my third grandchild next week.
My husband is selling funeral life insurrance and is gone from Monday to Thursday each week. I have a lot of quiet time to reflect, meditate and praise God.
I do not believe God is through wtih Bill and me yet. I think we are exactly where He wants us now. This has been a year of rest from “church work”, although we both are sub teachers for Sunday School classes.
Please pray for us and especially for my husband. I love the book and your writings have been very helpful. I sometimes make my own notes on the pages. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Carol Carpenter
